All About Facebook

Very interesting overview of privacy issues in “Does what happens in the Facebook stay in the Facebook?” (Flash). Look at the discussion of the privacy policy and the license you grant to the site owners, in particular.

I saw this front-page Toronto Star story on Thursday (on how the Ontario government is blocking access to Facebook on work computers – affecting many, including some MPs who use Facebook as a political tool!)). It was a useful thing to mention in my conference talk (and someone said to me afterwards that the first time they used Facebook, they thought it reminded them of a Foucault panopticon!).

I recently turned up my privacy settings on my own Facebook profile – the ‘push’ element (every time someone ‘tagged’ me in a photo in their collection, all my friends got told) is something I particularly dislike.
